I’m an acquisitions editor looking to acquire speculative Adult, New Adult, and Young Adult fiction titles for Inked in Gray Press. We are open to both agented and unagented submissions.
Well, what exactly is an acquisition editor?
To be more specific, I read through manuscripts to assess the editorial strength. I provide the rest of the Inked team with an assessment of strengths and weaknesses as well as an estimation of how much editorial work may be required. I also see where your manuscript will fit into the publishing marketplace and ultimately decide whether or not I recommend it for publication. I also assist with behind-the-scenes slush pile reading and am active on Twitter during pitch contests throughout the year.
To give a sense of my broad tastes, I love voice-driven stories with interesting plots. I also prioritize diversity across the board, as seen represented by both authors and characters themselves. I am passionate about amplifying historically marginalized writers. I would especially love to see submissions from BIPOC and/or chronically ill authors.
I love speculative sub-genres that include mystery and romance.
I’m not the best fit for traditional horror with gore.
